WebDiwali is a 5-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains across the world. The Diwali, also spelled Divali, one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism, lasting for five days from the 13th day of the dark half of the lunar month Ashvina to the second day of the light half of the lunar month Karttika. Visitors walk along the Raisina Hills at Rajpath amid smoggy conditions in New Delhi on Thursday. People spend this day cleaning and buying new clothes and ornaments gold and silver purchases are seen as particularly lucky. The revelers set off thousands of fireworks for a number of hours. The five-day occasion involves families gathering together for prayers, feasts, sharing gifts and celebrating the representation of light over darkness through light shows. Experts say wind speed and direction and generally favourable weather conditions are the main reasons behind the air quality not reaching the "severe" category, despite fireworks over Diwali and farmers burning stubble.
